The safest bicycle tyre for most uses is the Schwalbe Marathon Plus "unflattenable" tyre. With the SmartGuard insert made of highly elastic special rubber, it is extra thick. It provides permanent resistance to retracted foreign bodies, such as shards and granules. Here the SmartGuard plays the advantage of thickness. A retracted staple for example simply stays stuck in the rubber without causing damage. The SmartGuard insert is rolling resistance neutral. The Marathon Plus rolls as easily as a tyre without a protective belt. The tyre size also fits Saxonette/Spartamet light mofas with tyres 40-590 or 42-590. The tyre 37-590 is only a minute narrower in design.
